We have contracted two Workability rehabilitation practices in Bloemfontein and Port Elizabeth so that members in these areas can access the back and neck rehabilitation programme. This will be effective
1 April 2017.
This initiative supports our aim of achieving a broader national footprint and enhanced benefits which should also translate to more value for our members.
What is the back and neck programme?
The back and neck programme is an evidence-based and active rehabilitation programme. It is a
multi-disciplinary programme that includes treatment from doctors, physiotherapists, biokineticists and/or occupational therapists to treat severe neck and back pain. The main aim of treatment is functional restoration utilising functional exercise and Bio-Psychosocial elements. After the initial treatment, you receive a home-based programme to maintain results long-term. The tailored treatment protocols focus on reducing unnecessary medical investigations and invasive surgical procedures to reduce the risks of patients developing long-term disabling conditions.
Who can access the back and neck rehabilitation programme benefit?
The programme is available to Bonitas members on all plans except BonCap. Members can call 0860 002 108 to locate their nearest centre and contact them directly to enrol on the programme. Doctors and healthcare providers may also contact us to register eligible beneficiaries on the programme.
What happens if you don’t use the back and neck programme before spinal surgery?
If you are on BonClassic, Standard, Standard Select or BonComplete and you choose to go for spinal surgery without completing the back and neck programme, you will have to pay a R5 300 co-payment. If you are on Hospital Plus and you choose to go for spinal surgery without completing the back and neck programme, you will have to pay a R6 500 co-payment.
